Rummy,

Let me get this straight. You are not comfortable with transporting nuclear waste from the present storage pools at the power plants to the Yuka Mountain Repository for permanent burial in massively armored casks via road and rail with all the security in the world. The Yuka Mountain Repository is a stable geologic formation some 10's of millions of years old.

You are comfortable with the idea of putting some quantity of nuclear waste on top of a rocket and shooting it into the sun? Setting aside the economic and energy costs of such a project for the moment, does NASA's safety record with launch vehicles and space missions bother you even a little bit? Why be concerned with a little bit of potential leakage tens of thousands of years down the road from the Yuka Mountain Repository when we can globally disperse the radioactivity so much more efficiently from orbit!

Good idea, Rummy. Keep em coming!
