[Rhodes22-list] Topping lift

Rob, having a "mast head" topping lift is also a safety addition.  If the 
boom cannot swing while you are dropping the main, then you are gonna find 
it will eventually catch wind while dropping the main.  That usually keeps 
the sail from comming down anymore and then you got problems, especially in 
tigth quarters.  I can elaborate more if you are unclear about what I am 
talking about, chances are you have already experienced the problems 
clipping the boom end to the backstay.
