Day 3 Sunday
I was back on at 4 AM. I crawled out of the vee berth and noticed the boat
had a slight heel. We were making 5 plus knots and the wind seemed to be
around 10 15. The moon was shining brightly. The lightning was now behind
us over land. The wind held through the night and I didnt need to trim
sails or tack for 4 hours. We were now making 6 plus knots. We had Cereal,
granola bars, fruit, and juice for breakfast. I was off 8 AM until noon so I
took a nap in the cockpit. The new cushions were very comfortable.
We decided to have a hot lunch to take advantage of calm seas. I had the 12
4 watch so Jenny took over my galley duties. She sautéed some Chicken
Breasts then served sliced up over salads with fruit. Hornblower has a very
nice gimbaled 3-burner stove/oven complete with adjustable potholders. We
eventually hit the cobalt blue waters of the Gulf Stream. So far we had nice
gentle rollers only 2 feet or so well spaced. They were now about 3 6 and
increasing in frequency. The E to SE wind was now 15 20. The Pearson 35
loved the extra wind. We adjusted the CB while watching GPS track; we were
making 8 knots sustained for hours. .
We had more of the same through the night. Dinner was Turkey sandwiches and
fruit. We enjoyed another brilliant moonrise and clear skies; life was good.
I was able to sleep, no one was sick and we were making great time.
