My two favorites - pretty much any whisky from Islay, and Mount Gay. Argh!

Also - check out "The Annapolis Book Of Seamanship" by John Rousmaniere
<sp?> - I think it's a bit more sailing oriented than Chapmans. And I
heartily second Michael's suggestions of getting hands on basic safety and
navigation instruction from the Coast Guard Auxilliary or USPS.
