welcome to the chesapeake..as to your questions...marylou and fred are in the 
same situation regarding living and boating so im sure one of them will 
answer that....boatus policies will suffice for complete insurance and they have 
very good rates...i use an 8 lbs danforth...the chesapeake cruising guide 
published by chesapeake magazine is the authority on cruising, also there is a book 
of maryland chesapeake charts published by the md state dept of natural 
resources...both are available in most boating stores around the bay..we have a few 
rhodies in rock hall including marylou and fred.im sure youll get to meet them
