Yes, this works in many circumstances.
But... a couple of words of caution -- if you are
in a crowded anchorage, watch even more carefully
the boats adjacent! If they swing and you don't,
and their scope overlaps yours, it can get very
interesting.
Further, your wide stance gives you greater
exposure to problems if someone drags an anchor
across your rig. When time and conditions permit,
a courtesy visit to those up-wind and/or up-fetch of
you can alert them to your non-standard anchor rig
and let you gauge their seamanship. Makes for
better sleeping.
That said, the rig is still a good one to have in
your bag of tricks.
