Steve:

Of course we both want this to be a paradise and of course we want people to 
earn their keep.  I know some come out with their first words being, "more 
contrast",  but I came out with a hammer in my hand (now where did I put my 
sickle?).  It is just that we disagree on how to get there.  I think we need 
government to enforce the rules.  I get the feeling you are for deregulation 
that allows the shady to take advantage of freedom from government 
regulations to screw the rest of us.  That your view of how to get to our 
mutual destination is to get government off corporate backs and into women's 
interiors. Up to now this country has been so strong that we have been able 
to survive our blunders but I am afraid that our turning our backs on 
education my not be survivable in this new world.  Steve, in your well 
meaning e-mails you tend to often use the word "stupid".  There are no 
stupid Rhodies no matter their politics, but you have to sit where I do to 
appreciate that there is a growing army of stupid Americans and that may 
well turn out to be our Achilles heel. There is a clothing advertiser whose 
slogan is, "an educated buyer is our best customer".  I am afraid the 
Republicans' thinking is that, "the dumbing down of America is our best 
voter pool."  At today's college costs I would never have made it - nor 
would many others on this List.  You need a government that understands 
spending priorities.  During the "greatest generation" we went through 
college at government expense and the prosperity that followed proved the 
worthiness of that type of policy.  So Steve, if you really want to get to 
the same place dummies like me envision, I respectfully suggest you 
re-examine at least some of your thinking.
