it works for a short time

I meant that the screws that are set loosely merely to keep the bearing 
inserts from lifting out of their respective doughnuts, are meant to be on 
the top side so that gravity is holding the bearing in the doughnut holes 
and the screw are merely there to keep the bearings in place when the boom 
is being lowered for use in its lower position.  To put the bearings in from 
the bottom of the doughnut hole would mean that the bearing flange is always 
riding on the screw head lip - not my design but workers often feel they 
have a better idea - or no idea.

might be the reason for the breakage since yours is the first I have ever 
heard of failing.
