Rummy:
A hurricane making landfall south of here would result in a swell that would push the foul stuff to the north, up towards Corpus Christi, but without rain it might recover; with the net effect being a spreading of the bloom. A direct hit with lots of rain would probably shut the bloom down, as would any rain of substantial quantity. There seems to be a relationship between reducing salinity / pH / temp as caused by a substantial rain event.

This is certainly the longest lasting, if not one of the most potent red tides I have ever experienced. Going outside is like getting maced. It's no fun to even drink rum down at the wanna-wanna or parrot-eyes bar right now.

Hopefully the whole gulf will cool off before too long, and these sort of things will become history for another year. We have a minor cool front on top of us, with a forecast lowering of temperatures to around 90 degrees and a 60% chance of rain. Hallelujah!

Thanks jw. What will it take to get rid of the red menace? Would a hurricane
get rid of it?
