Rick,
Stan is not looking for a tip, for that matter is neither Elton, Jay
or anyone of us who might be there answering questions about a Rhodes 22.
Re read Mary Lou's comments. She presents the situation civilly.
This list is not the domain or under the control of Stan or GBI.
Some of us, like me, can send zingers with the best of them. You said that,
"I am looking for a real persons opinions." That is what this web list is,
real personal opinion! Moreover, some of them quite sharp. Let me say it
another way, the value of Stan's advice, comments and time deserve your
gratitude.
Historically, Stan has taken many prospective sailboat buyers for
demo rides at boat shows. Understand that he is the best, and for a 22-foot
sailboat, his boat is the best. Many do not begin to comprehend nor
appreciate the value of that demonstration. That hour does have value, a
real value that dollars cannot put to. If you do not want the advice from
the best there is, so be it. That is your choice.
My point is in agreement with Mary Lou; Stan is not selling you
anything. Stan is simply the best and presenting the best.
As for a Rhodes 22 handling 50 mph gusts, I know mine did. Last
spring at the Marina where I keep my boat there was a storm with winds
estimated over 60 mph. When I arrived after the storm, my boat was sitting
there, smiling and wanting to go for sail. The mast was up the whole time.

The floating dock where I slip my boat sustained serious damage to
the outer 1/3 limiting use this year. Another dock down from mine had its
moorings moved and ground cables damaged, requiring a special crane device
to repair.
That same storm threw many sailboats onto land at the sailing club
docks a couple of miles north of me, on the same side of the lake. Mr.
Rummy or Captain Bob did not have any serious problems with that storm.
Maybe Mr. Rummy would post a picture he posted after the storm showing the
damage.
Did you read the report of Ben on his boat after Hurricane
Katherine? If not go back to the archives and see pictures of one of few
boats not destroyed on the north side of Lake Pontchartrain.
