Bud,
	I guess it is there to hold up the stanchion that it is connected
to.  You need to look at more Rhodes 22's.  Every year they are different.
However, I have seen at least two other R22's with similar cables. There is
another cable on the other side.  See attached picture looking toward
mountain north of Mr. Rummy's abode. 	
	You are welcome to come to Lake Hartwell and examine the set up.
When can we expect you?
