The wind that day was slightly offshore (WNW) at about 10-15 knots. It is much the same today, only the swell is MUCH MUCH larger, unbelievably huge. That wave was maybe 15', at the end of the third sandbar today (about 1/2 mile out, it looks to be well over 20-25 feet! It has consequently caused a red tide aersol so bad that it is living hell just to go outside, the entire air almost all the way to Port Isabel (3 miles across the bay) is a fine acrid mist.
