[Rhodes22-list] Sailing suggestion.

Good topic! It is true that racers sit on the lee side to create heel 
helping fill sails in calm conditions. I am not sure if Rummys comment was 
tongue in cheek but 30 degrees is too much. If the rail is buried you are 
losing speed. In my opinion the R22 likes to be sailed flatter flat going 
down wind and some heel going up.

Rik mentions the "right" conditions.  For me I have hit my top speeds in the 
R22 while on a broad reach in heavy winds. The boat generally is balanced 
with just a slight heel, weight forward, and the CB up. I sail inland lakes 
and can achieve 6 - 7 knots easily under these conditions. I also have had 
some spinnaker runs well over hull speed as well.

I can also motor over "hull speed" with a 6 HP motor running wide open.

Keep in my mind there is more than one formula for hull speed.
