There is already at least one other Rhodes 22 at WSM. John Hickey keeps
his boat Far Niente' at the end of E dock. IIRC they race on Tuesday
evenings.

Dave, The information I had is based upon my wife's
investigation of the post's facilities. I figured the Rhodes22
would be just fine in the shallow slip. The manager was hopeful
that some day the Congress would fund dredging. McDill AFB has the
same problem. As for civilian use, I am not so sure. When it
comes to Morale, Welfare and Recreation Fund, in some things the
post commander can make exceptions. Others are deternined by law
due to public funding. Usually, rule of thumb is, if they charge a
tax (such as at the Thrift Shop) civilian's can use it, if not, it
is military and retirees only. That may have as much to do with
States deal with the Feds as with Congress and law (such as with
liquor sales). I am stationed at Aberdeen Proving Ground and
they have a small but very nice facility there. Some slips that
appear deep enough (I saw a couple of larger boats moored there)
and they have some off shore mooring. They have dry storage too,
but the lot
is small. I come home on the weekends so APG is too far away for
me. I intended to either try for a slip at the Ft. Belvoir Marina
(one of the shallow ones that no one else can use) or dry storage
and launch each time. I have to wait until I pick up the loaner.
I was waiting until an estate is settled so I can better assess how
I will pay or finance everything or whether I want to finance at
all and just pay, but Connecticut Probate is dragging its butt. My
brother had everything settled in January. We finally got a date
of 11 May, ridiculous! Anyway, hopefully we'll be able to do
something NLT June. Regards,Philip.....--- On Sat 04/29,

EDTSubject: Re: [Rhodes22-list] Wash., DC marinasRe letting
civilians use the Belvoir marina, I don't know. In the WDC area
civilian and retired military are commonly
synonymous. I imagine Belvoir base services might have difficulty
denying service to a civilian working on base and accepting retired
military - as I understand it, they are paid to support base ops
staff, not retired military - but I could be wrong. One problem you
might have is basic slip availability. Maybe 6 or 9 months ago I
inquired at the Wash Sailing Marina regarding a slip and was told
the waiting list to get a slip was 3 years. Belle Haven just said
forgeddaboutit. Belvoir may have a similar slip availability
problem, I recommend you check if you haven't already. If you were
going to dry store @ the marina it might not be a problem, but I
have no idea regarding their launch/recover facilities.I have been
told there is an abundance of snake head fish in the Belvoir area,
that should add to your boating enjoyment there.Regarding Belvoir
being deep enough for an R22: Again, I think there is an R22 owner
already there. His and his boats existence at Belvoir suggest to me
that it'll
work.Dvae__________________________________________________Use
