Tom:

You said,"It seems that there is a lot over over development in a lot
of areas. At some
point, it seems the local governments have a responsiblity to protect the
shorelines of our beautiful lakes." Then you ought to see Lake Norman, just
north of Charlotte. Lake Norman is a private lake, specifically a Duke
Power lake. Duke Power intentionally developed the shores of its lake. An
the houses had to originally be all electric. The local governments liked
the increased tax base. They could not care at all about undeveloped
shorelines.
This is even a problem with Corp of Engineer Lakes. There are annual
bills introduced into Congress to sell off more of the Corps shorelines for
private development. And you better understand the monies spent to
influence the opening of the shorelines for 'development'.
Have you considered staying where you are and running for Congress to
help protect what you want protected?
Have you considered that you are trying to decide where to go without
seeing most of the opportunities? Go visit Brad on the Gulf Coast. If you
are looking for work, he has asked for willing workers.
Have you visited Lake Thurmond, near Augusta Georgia? Of course a trip
to visit Luis in Florida would be relevant. Art keeps trying to sell you on
the Georgia Coast. If you want to run a marina, I saw a small one for sale
on the internet in northern Michigan, on some island.
