Nick,
I went with the Nissan 8hp 4-stroke manual start.  I think I used 3 gallons
of gas last summer.  The Tohatsu and Nissan are basically the same motor.
for $20 more, the Nissan had an extra year's warranty.  I sail on a lake so
can't say anything about what is required for the LIS, but this is way more
than enough for lake sailing.  Never had the throttle over half.  Starts
with one or two pulls everytime.  I got mine from.
