Wally,
Allison and I make the HH; Palmetto Bay Marina highly recommended, by the way; many times a year. Never tried Skull Creek, but the area has some nice anchorages. PB is one of few sites that will allow keeping the trailer on site if you have a slip. About $30 per for a little paradise, folks.
What discoveries have you made about this coastal region? I suspect this would be an excellent region for retirement bliss, even on the cheap. We ought to put together a regatta here, or out of Sail Harbor in Savannah ('96 Olympics, small boat venue) and have a big party. Maybe we could even bring Slim and his mother... and Rummy and his rum... and Ed and his attitude... the possibilities are both endless and mindless. I better quit if I'm ahead...
