Thanks for the response.  I test sailed a MacGregor swing-keel 26 last week.
First time in a sailboat, and I loved the experience. I have been a
powerboater for years both in freshwater lakes, rivers, and the gulf of
Mexico. I want to purchase a sailboat that I can take in both shallow and
deep water and trailer and handle by myself.
   I presently have a house on a channel that leads to Lake Pontchartrain
just outside New Orleans. My channel gets very shallow (it is 2 feet deep at
low tide, 3 feet or so at high tide).  I plan on buying a sailboat that will
allow me to sneak over that shallow water, and also handle an occasional
cruise out to the closer barrier islands in the Gulf of Mexico (10 to 12
miles out).  I also need to be able to trailer the boat easily and be able
to single handedly launch and raise the mast if necessary. 
  Would the keel/centerboard be safe on my short island trips, ( the waves
can kick up pretty quick and it can get quite rough very fast). Is it
possible to raise and lower the mast and rigging alone, or would I need at
least 1 crew member?
