John,
Welcome to the Rhodes 22 List. While you have an old one, it is not
significantly different from those made today. I did not see a rub rail in
your picture. You may want to add one. It goes over the seam connecting
the deck to the hull. You had a line of screws where it goes. It is to
protect the hull from contact.
Rummy referenced a centerboard cap. Boats of your vintage did usually did
not have the cap but rather were molded completely in glass. If you have a
floor, look underneath for the answer to this question.
There used to be a Rhodie who sailed on the Hudson River who had the motor
in the well. Does your boat have a hull number on the starboard side of
the transom? That would tell you the origin.
There are others on this list in Florida. You might not be far
from Luis.
