Tom,

I bought the GB mast hoist 2 years ago,it was about $700 ,back then.For
that price , I got  the gin pole with the self braking winch,the bracket
that mounts (and stays) on the boat,to hold the pole when in use,and the
mast carrier that holds the mast up at the back of the boat.
I slip my boat in the spring,but pull it 3 or 4 times thru the summer,to try
out other lakes. The mast hoist has been a great investment for me.(this
from somebody who is so cheap,he made his own anchor,steaming and deck
lights)
If you are going to slip your boat all year in the same lake,the hoist may
not seem a very good value to you,but it still lessens the risk of raising
and lowering the mast enough to make it worth it to me.It's hard to get a
trip to the ER for under $700.
