George,
12K for a used '91 doesn't necessarily mean it's in bad shape or an ignorant
seller. Remember that a recycled boat from GB is almost like a brand new
boat. A used boat that has been reasonably well cared for will still sell
for considerably less than a recycled. We paid much less than 12K for our
used '90 boat, trailer and motor plus extras--all in very good condition.
Our subsequent upgrades include a new pop top enclosure, used boom room and
modification to the trailer (adding a second axle) and if I had to sell it
I'd probably ask 14.9 and take 12. Or I'd use Bill's 5 day method and start
the bidding at 7K and still expect to get 12-14.
But that doesn't mean that you didn't get a good deal on your recycled. The
recycled boats come with a stamp of approval, a guarantee and lots of
customer support and piece of mind. We didn't pay for that luxury nor did
we hire a surveyor or ask for a sea trial. That and a cash offer--and I
mean cash money-- brings the price down significantly. We just looked her
over as best we could and then ya pays yer money and ya takes yer chances.
Maybe we got a little lucky.
