Just to add to the mix - I suspect many outboards can be fitted with remote
controls. To my knowledge the Yamaha is the only one with the controls that
can fit on top of the tiller and the only one Stan has adapted for the
outboard to rudder connection. We got remote control through Honda. It
required a special mount for attaching the cables to the motor. The dealer,
when he understood what we wanted to do, gave us good advice about the
cables. Our cables run through the gas boot (with a little persuasion),
through the lazarette and over the bulkhead between the lazarette and the
area under the cockpit seats. The controls are mounted on a board which is
attached to a table pedestal that fits in the cockpit socket. This puts
them right underneath the tiller and they are easily stowed under the seats
when not in use. Pix attached. We always meant to trim the table mount (it
was a spare obtained from Stan) for a neater looking install but we never have.
