My Islander 36 had the VHF through a circuitbreaker panel and so did a
friend of mine's Hunter 380.  In the larger boats I think pretty much
everything goes through the panel as there are usually at least 2 banks of
batteries.  By going through the panel you can power the VHF with either
bank.  I also carried a handheld VHF as a backup.
