[Rhodes22-list] icebox and BR Approval

Ed,

Remember, Icebox or Frige, everything 's cool.

I responded to the list as much as you. Icebox for you, frige for others. The battery draw may not be material for some who already have a generator - motor or otherwise. My personal preference at this point is an icebox.

I'm so glad you asked about the trip. The visit was entirely positive in a number of ways - the first without question, the time with Stan and Rose. It was terrific to get to know them and spend so much time at the plant. The quarters are around the corner from the plant floor, so I put the 'river boat config' on one of the inside boats for final fitting of the curtains and worked whatever hours I wanted, finishing the prototype boomroom and one other while there. Stan approved all and we established the sales relationship in which I will sell to Rhoades owners only thru GB. I really would not have wanted anything else. I have alot of respect for this man, I am sure a feeling we all share in common.

The boomroom can be held at the bottom with ties fore and aft, as in my earlier picture, or with snaps. For fit, the snaps are clearly preferred and easier to install. The cost will hold at $1K for now, although I will admit much more than that is going into workmanship and material. In whatever color - now Pacific Blue and Navy - the room looks excellent. Screen use is optional and not a problem, but will involve some extra cost, not that much.

The short mast project is also a success. It is easy to carry in the boat and on a trip. It works very well as a motor-cruiser system because the boom room fits just as it does with the sailing mast. For some boating trips a short mast will be the only option because of vertical height limitations, but will add many variations to the use of this excellent boat. I have now installed the short mast on the R22 and a MacGregor, both entirely successful.

Back to Stan and Rose - what a terrific couple. Stan may be 80, but a human dynamo. Rose and I chased him all over the plant on the last day before we had dinner at the Gold Club, only to find him in a trailer shed out back rummaging through odds and ends, excuse me - treasures from the past. His shingles are apparently doing much better, and day to day he is very much involved in operating GB, and loves it! He has a very ecumenical outlook, having involved himself in the refurb and painting of their daughter's O'Day Outlaw, a rare boat with pop-top that extends over the entire cabin area.

Have a good week,
Art
