Check out Brown Recluse spider bite on _www.snopes.com_ 
(http://www.snopes.com) . It says this story is  unconfirmed and also says the odds of a recluse 
bite getting this bad is slim.  The bites are serious but bacteria getting into 
the bite and infecting it is  what they say can cause a much worse problem. I 
do where gloves when I'm  cleaning out the garage because they do like to hang 
out in dark corners.
