John,
Visit Stan at Edenton, look at the pretty ladies on the floor, and you'll risk taking every one home.  What pithy questions have you asked.  Condition of the compression post, cockpit and cabin cushions, trailer frame and bearings, mast, hull integrity, convenience fixtures.  When were the sails and apparatus last inspected?  A dealer may give you a blank stare - all the better, because he will need to connect you with the owner.  Someone on the list may know some history.  What boat is the owner moving into, why?  You can become very confident of worth if you pursue the questions.  The owner may reveal if he has any wiggle room...
