[Rhodes22-list] Lazarett Leakage Issues

Rory:

Rory said that the boat is on a lift and pitched slightly stern. Then
asked, "Could be a pitch issue" ?

Yes. In a heavy or driven rain, even on newer boats with flush drains, the
water may not drain fast enough. I have an ’84 with non flush drains and it
is a problem that is why Stan first went to flush drains then bigger drains.

Dan Snyder said his boat has a seal around Laz. I doubt that a routine
weather seal would stop all leakage in a storm, especially on the water.
The boat flexes and the flexing could cause some leakage. An edge seal
might help but I would look for a thin rubber type material to lay on the
upper surface of the curved lip of the laz. Make sure any breaks in
continuity are toward the front and middle of the seal. The water is coming
from the back and sides not draining fast enough. This would have to be a
thin material and not a conventional weather seal. It cannot be so thick as
to interfere with normal closing of the lid. I would say about a 1/16th
inch thick would be correct, but I have not seen such a material.

As to occasional water in the cabin, in a storm it is possible to drive
water under the pop top. And the archives contain many past discussions of
leaks and their sources. A study of the archives may produce an appropriate
list to study.
