[Rhodes22-list] In Defense of Ed

Mike,
This matter came up a few years ago. New people were coming on the list
and asking questions that had been repeatedly answered in the past, and
entered into the FAQ, and pointed to in the charter...etc.
So no one was answering at all. We needed a designated answerer, and Ed
was the only volunteer.
Now, we all know and knew that Ed has a slight attitude problem that he
is not shy about displaying. Still, no one else volunteered to be the
designated answerer, and no one else has volunteered since.
If you, or Rex, or Elle, or any of the other list members who joined
after the "Ed the Grouchy Greeter" decision was made, wish to assume the
job of answering all the otherwise unanswered queries, I know I, and
many others who have dumped this job on Ed, would seriously entertain
your offer.
If you merely are asking Ed not to be Ed--that won't work.
If you want to apologize for Ed every time he tees off on an
unsuspecting newbie, that could be your job, too.
But it's not right to criticize Ed for being himself. He does a lot of
work on this list, and when we have changed horses in the past we have
often discovered that the critic who takes over is not nearly as
diligent as the person who had been doing the job.
