Three new towers have gone up in the county, but all on the western edge; I'm on the eastern edge of the county...the nearest Cingular tower is 7 mi away...

NEXTEL is an older, lower frequency. By 2010 they are going to merge into
the newer higher frequency. Fewer dropped calls and wider coverage. Some
of their features have merged but they still sell separate plans. My NEXTEL
goes completely dead about 40 miles from Edenton, but other systems work.
My brother said he lost service in Keene, NH. However, in the outlying
rural areas he was fine. If she calls one or the other may have coverage.
The coverage also expands constantly. Check back every few months to see if
new towers went up.

The problem with that is that she lives out in the boonies. Sprint and
Verizion's wireless data coverage is pretty sparse once you get out of urban
areas.

Elle,
For about $39.00 per month you can get wireless internet through a cell
phone carrier. I am aware of Sprint and Verizon's. CISCO makes a router
that adapts it to the home computer since the original device is designed
for a laptop. The price is lower than I pay for Comcast broadband.

Well, since out here in the Va boonies, cable is
unheard of, Broadband is a PG gal with her waistband
hanging on for dear life...dial-up is the 'connect du
jour.' Of course, there's satellite, but I like to
eat, too.

The computer is only 2 yrs old.....G4 ain't shabby.
