Ed,
Understand that your statement is wrong! Maybe you need to read some of the
books you are suggesting. I really don't consider myself liberal but many of
my positions on social issues are considered liberal. I am all for
legalization of prostitution and drugs (for consenting adults), and many
other things that most conservatives would find shocking. I would also
eliminate wlefare afte one year. Is this socialism?
I belive that we should tax the hell out of drugs and prostitution.. It
costs way too much to enforce these laws. Busting a guy for some weed and
tossing him in jail is a lose/lose proposition. It now costs 40K a year to
house this criminal and if he had a job he is no longer paying taxes. Gangs
wars over drug turf would cease. Law enforcement can focus on thieves,
murderers, rapists, and white collar crime.
Before you claim making drugs legal is crazy think things through. I am
guessing you don't smoke crack or hang around whores, If the laws changed
tomorrow would you start smoking crack? That fact that this activity is
illegal really doesn't influence anyone. If a women has the right to an
abortion surely she has the right to do what ever she wants with her body.
And if someone will pay her I would consider this free trade. If we educated
people about the dangers of this type of activity one could make an informed
choice.
To say all liberals are for socialism is nonsense. There are some issues
that are socialist but they are not confined to liberals. One example is
health care; many from both sides agree we need to do something to change
current system.
I know you like to paint all with a broad brush and anyone who disagrees is
a commie or socialist. If you had a better understanding of the real world
you would realize you are full of it.
Wally
