what did you spray the bottom with to clean it? i assume racers do it the most efficient way.

Remember, I out-pointed you WITH my 175 up in our R-22 race of
years ago (seems like yesterday).
That is the racer in me!
I just winch that genoa in tight and head up...hang onto the
main sheet to let 'er out a little to maintain your 15 degree
heel for speed.
speaking of J-34....we have our big regatta Sat so we pulled the
J-34 and sprayed the bottom after our summer of 100+ degrees.
That heat sure makes for nasty bottoms.
Wish us luck!
Gee, Rik, This is your usual time to be here...miss you.
Hope Sandy is doing better.

Bob,
I never had a problem with how well my R-22 would point. although, I did
get beat up pretty bad (pointing wise) by a J-34 once ..... big
surprise, eh??
The "wide beam" you keep mentioning really is not that wide at all. Yes,
overall it is 8 feet, BUT, that is at the gunnels, NOT at the water
line. I think you will find, if you check into it that the R-22 has a
fairly narrow beam *at the waterline* compared to most boats in this
length range. (about 6 1/2 feet)
If there is a pointing problem, it's the 175 genoa. It makes a lot of
power, but you can't hang that much canvas outside the shrouds and
expect to point high too. Get a 125 and sheet it inside if you want to
point. 'Course, you're gonna' want a little wind to get moving good
then, but as they say, you can't always get what you want :-)
PS: don't try to keep up to or point with an R-22 in a CP23, You will be
disappointed. A Precision 23 would be a much closer competition.
