Jb,
On the picture-DSCoo414,On my boat(an '86),the sliding bracket on the boom
is reversed-pulley wheel forward, the bracket tang to the back. also the
outhaul line goes from where it is tied on the end of the boom ,underneath
the pulley wheel,to a block (pulley wheel)that is attached to the shackle
that is missing the pin on the sail, then back thru underneath the pulley on
the sliding bracket (two lines will be underneath the pulley on the sliding
bracket,no line goes around the pulley.),then it goes over top of the pulley
mounted on the aft end of the boom, then thru the boom ,and into the cleat.
This allows you to put part of the sail out and then slide the sliding
bracket towards the sail for proper sail shape.
On picture 416,the cotter ring on the retaining pin for the boom sliding
bracket in the mast grove,is stretched and could easily fall out of the
retaining pin. If this happens,at best, you would lose the option of lowering
or raising the boom, worst case is you would hear---Pa-ting,splash,and a loud
bang as the boom sliding bracket tests the retaining pin on the pop -top
sliding bracket,on it's rapid travel downward.
On picture 417 ,the stainless steel strap to the port side of the mast is
a fairlead to lead the topping lift line aft to the cockpit, mine goes to a
cam cleat on top ,aft port side of the cabin top. Also, that spring sticking
out of the pop-top sliding bracket retaining pin,I think, should be on the
inside of the plastic bracket.
I don't know whats -up with the unused block on the furling unit,I would
think it is used to help change sails, but, it might just be the ticket for
the block for the sail outhaul, the shackle might even work.
out of time tonight,
Jerry Lowe
