Ed et all,
As an Army Officer I am not prohibited on commenting on current events or
anything else. There is a regulation that prohibits any service member from
making disparaging statements about elected officials or those appointed over
us. As a new returnee to the list I am a little reluctant to get involved
in the political discussions on the list as they are quite fierce, and often
emotional, although all in the spirit of good lively debate.
By way of background, I have been a Rhodes owner since 96 when I purchased
my first Rhodes after seeing it at the Annapolis Boat Show. Got orders for
Germany the next year and made a deal with Stan to store/sell it and
purchased my 2nd Rhodes after returning from Germany in 99 (came back sooner than I
thought). When I went back to Germany in 02 I stored the boat for 4 years
based on advice from a fellow sailor who said get the boat paid for before the
kids enter college and just hang onto it which is what I have done. Sailing
is the most relaxing thing I do in my life. Had "Ranger" at GB this winter
for some minor repair and bottom paint. They still do good work. I trust them
implicitly. Going to put her in the water next week after I return from
Columbia, SC. I sail out of Old Point Comfort Marina on Ft Monroe, VA; an
historic, gated, guarded, waterfront community. Only took me 28 years and 14
moves to get here :-). Previously I have sailed on the Potomac, Neuse River,
Middle Chesapeake, and now the lower Chesapeake.

Captain Michael Corley ( nautical rank, not military)
It is great to have you back. If you seen the posts to this list, you may
have noticed a certain acrimony about the military. Many of the new comers
are not aware of who you are.
Here in Greenville, SC, USA we have a local radio talk show. The host got a
local Army major home on leave to give his perspective of the war in Iraq a
few weeks ago. This U. S. Army officer was very good at explaining the
situation, and took calls from the listening audience.
I sit here seeing you reluctant to offer your perspective. Keep in mind
that there are a few of us left who know what you do. And we support you
because we respect you. Are you completely prohibited from commenting on
current events because of your job?
Ed K

Addendum: “I'd rather entrust the government of the United States to the
first 400 people listed in the Boston telephone directory than to the
faculty of Harvard University. “ William F. Buckley (1925 - )
