Dan,
It's easy to reach from Tampa, in fact take the Airtran to Sarasota/Bradenton, and you are just a few minutes from one very nice boat.  If you look at a chart of the west coast, just take a gander at Sarasota Bay, south to Venice, Port Charlotte, and further south to Fort Myers.  This area is sheer pleasure for me.
