Dave,

I really can't argue with any of your points except that Imus is paid to be
a smartass and there's really no line there to cross.  Myself, I indeed
single out people in my audience and heap ridicule on them at will, but it's
all in fun and nobody's confused about that, I hope.  In my many years of
insulting people, only once or twice have they been actually insulted
because they have no sense of humor.  It's all in the delivery.  You can't
simply say, "Hey buddy, your woman's a whore."  but you can bring her up on
stage and do a funny song about her being a whore.  If you do it right,
she's not insulted but just the opposite, and drops a few bucks in my tip
jar.  That's comedy.
