Hi, Robert,
Glad to hear you're out from under with no damage that
can't be repaired.I had a bunch of stuff come down & a
dead tree that will make a nice home for some
critter....
WM fared well...altho' at low tide this AM the deck
was 6' below the surface of the dock...that sucking
sound is the wind blowing all the water out of the
creeks.
Tying lines these few days has been a challenge. The
problem during these extreme days is that the wind is
from the N (broadside) blowing WM into the dock. I
have to keep the outboard lines loose enough to allow
it to fall w/the extreme lows...but then at high tide
they are way too loose (note the lotsa fenders on the
boat & bumpers on the dock). If I tighten the stbd
lines & loosen the port lines, that would keep her off
the dock but then I wouldn't be able to get off the
boat after adjusting them.....;^)
I had rigged a line from the bow cleat to the pulley
on the outboatd piling, then back to a forward dock
piling which allowed me to loosen it & let the boat
drift to the dock to board...but it turned the boat
diagonally in the slip causing the port stern to bump.
I should do this again but tie the line to the stbd
midship cleat.
However, I now have a cinder block on that pulley on
the forward outboard piling secured to the stbd
midship cleat ...it normally does a good job holding
her off...but not in these extreme conditions we've
had.(altho' it did pull her off the dock rather
quickly in the lulls....
I'm sending some pix.....Note on the bulkhead (#1,
taken at normal low tide) the line that indicates a
normal high tide. This AM at low tide the water was @
8' away from the bulkhead.
You can see on the pilings the indicator of a normal
high tide. The second picture was taken a bit over an
hour after high tide.
WM certainly is a leetle boat in a great big slip....

We can't change the angle of the wind....but we can adjust our sails.
