Diane, the furling line for the IMF main on my boat works best when I'm
pointed up wind. It sometimes takes a good yank to get it moving but then
the momentum keeps it moving smoothly. The furling line is tied off in one
direction or the other, then the remaining line just loops on the remaining
cleats. The car for the genoa sheets moves depending on how much sail you
have out. If you have it only partly unfrurled, move the cars forward.
Fully unfurled, move the cars back. On my genoa there is a piece of tape
sewn into the sail showing the line the sheet should make going to the car.
Hope this helps.
