Dave,

I have made all of the BRs for over-the-boom except on my boat. On mine, the frame is stabilized by two legs in the back, not by the boom, so that the boom can move freely. The BR on Rex's boat is over the boom. You would sail with BR top (only the top) for the same reason as for a bimini, comfort and blocking UVs. Also more convenient for setting up the BR at anchor.

Entry points, which are not obvious for asthetic reasons, are at the transom - the solid or screen panels are unzipped for access to ladder/motor/boom/etc, and at the gunnel on both sides, near the cabin bulkhead - snaps for quick entry and exit, a safety factor.

I am planning to have my boat and BR at the October and November shows, although I'm not sure how it will fit within Stan's plans. Maybe I can pull into his slip at some point for a while. His demo slip is very convenient to the show site in Annapolis. I don't think he used a demo boat at St. Pete.

Now at the sixth design generation, it has been a challenge and a pleasure to step up to this project. I am glad that some other skippers can now take advantage of this simple and durable BR. The bene's of space and convenience are there. BTW, The top is about 4 1/2 feet long and rolled into a log shape about 6" diameter, carried over the shoulder (~20#) pretty easily. The curtains fit into a small bag, maybe 5# weight. I am hoping to see the picture I sent to Stan of Rex's on the .com site so it will be viewable. One recent near skipper emphasized to me recently that it was a major incentive in his wanting to buy the R22. I will send a snap of the top on the frame if you want.

Chow,

Art
