I'm with you on your comments about what to get or not get. I'm a strong  
believer in keeping things simple. The more "things" you have, the more time  
spent repairing those things. Porta potti works just fine. VHS with a mast  
mounted antenna will punch out about 18 miles, a lot further than a hand  held.
