Wally, I appreciate the info. I'm also West Knoxville. CYC is a short
trip for me and, hopefully, will allow me to do some evening sailing.
I'm scheduled for lessons in a few weeks and hope to find that its all
I'm looking for. Thanks for the offer - would love the opportunity to
actually see an R22. I hope to make the trip to Edenton but haven't
found the time to do so yet.

The Bahamas is a potential destination but not for some time. Good to
know there's some experience with the trip.

I hope to keep the boat in the water and may join CYC if all goes as
planned. From what
I've read, the trailering of the R22 should allow me to pull it when I
want to roam - another reason I settled on the R22.

Good to be aboard.

Tom

Tom,

Welcome to the list. There are at least 2 R22s in the Knoxville area.
Bill W
is at Concord Yacht Club. I slip my R22 out at Blue Springs on Watts
Bar.
Bill has a newer Rhodes that is fairly loaded. I have an older 1984
Rhodes I
slip at Blue Springs Marina on Watts Bar. Bill and I both live in West
Knox.....what side of town are you on?

I am currently out of town but you are welcome to a visit and a sail. I
will
give you a call or shoot you an email back channel when I get home. I
could
email on the list but even mentioning back channel seems to annoy
certain
list members. :-)

I had Bill W and his wife out for a visit when they were considering a
R22.
Bill has since sailed his R22 to Bahamas (not from Knoxville but it is
possible!), and towed to FL Gulf, and Coastal NC. He could give you
some
insight on trailering, set up and take down. His boat will show a lot
nicer
than my old beater.

You mention you were new to sailing. You should check out the Concord
Yacht
Club.. This is a sail only club that provides lessons. Bill W is a long
time
member and past Commodore.

I have owned my R22 about 6 years or so. I have never regretted the
decision. My boat has a faded blue hull so it is showing some age but
everything is sound.

Are you going to keep your boat in the water or on a trailer?

Welcome,

Wally
