what dollar?  of the $30 that was originally put on the desk (output):

$25 went to the motel clerk (input)
$3 went back to the men (input),
and the bellboy got $2 (input), for a total of $30 .

sum of outputs = sum of inputs.

what this really is, is an example of the logic some people on this list use
to make their points! - rob
