[Rhodes22-list] Tongue Weight

Bill D:

First, relax, you can move a Rhodes 22 on a trailer in the wrong
position resulting in wrong tongue weight. The only issues are at what
speed. If it is more than a couple of inches off, you just have to be
carefull over 70 mph and going down hill. If you go 55 you just do not have
the problems.
If you are going to Edenton to get your boat, ask that Elton be there,
he moves more boats and goes more distant places than Stan does these days.
The correct tongue weight is a variable. Older boats, that is
recycled weigh less than brand new boats, therefore need less tongue weight.
The kind and size of the motor are factors. I have an 8 hp 2 cycle Tohotsu
and it only weighs 60 pounds. I can move it myself. If you get a 9.9 four
stoker, it takes two people to move and affect tongue weight more if you
leave it on. So if you have the heavier motor you have to have the boat
more foreward.
Yes, you can launch and retrieve a Rhodes 22 by yourself. It is just
faster and easier with two. Especially when one of the helpers is Rummy.
Now if you really want to know the answers, look here:
