[Rhodes22-list] Bottom Paint

I've read that a lot of freshwater sailors use VC17. It isn't
suitable for saltwater and there aren't very many paints you can put
over it without stripping back to gelcoat if you decide to change.

For the last 7 years on the Cheasapeake (brackish where we are
saltier further south) we've used Woolsey Neptune II, a water based
ablative with a high copper content. It has worked very well and was
easy to use, easy to clean up. We usually got two years out of it and
some years just touched up the waterline and the leading edge of the
bow and the keel. Alas it is no longer availalbe and we are not sure
what we are going to do this year. Pettit makes Hydrocoat but it has
much less copper. Sea Hawk Monterey might be a possibility but I
don't know anyone who has used it or where to get it. We'll be
talking to the boatyard folks after they and we get back from vacation.
