Rob,
No, the lazy jacks are not for reefing. Their main purpose is to gather and
keep the main sail from flopping down into the cockpit when you lower it.
The lines of the lazy jack keep the sail cloth temporarily bundled on top of
the boom until you get a chance to flake it and tie it up properly.
I'm surprised your main has no reef points. Until you feel like popping for
the IMF, you might consider having reef points installed and maybe cheek
blocks on the cabin roof to lead your main halyard to the cockpit so you
don't have to go forward.
