Bill,
What I find around NYC is that the big marinas are friendly to small
sailboats. They don't have huge boats every day, and they can slip us
into spots with 30 foot boats. We are found money, and there is almost
always a place for us, even when they are full to larger boats. Also,
they will waive minimum footage fees if you ask. Sometimes you have to
make a lot of calls, but more often, if you call at the last minute,
someone will say "sure I can slip you in..." I'm not sure where the
money goes in these cases, but you can get all the amenities of the
bigger boats and be the favored boat as far as the dock master is concerned.
