Clearly JB and Al have a point regarding all the hot air on the list.   I’d 
bet every person on the list has thought of canceling at one time or  another.  
But JB, Al, and others  need to understand that all the  chatter is a GOOD 
THING FOR THEM because it keeps the truly knowledgeable  sailors/owners (and I’m 
not referring to myself) involved and coming back to the  list. 
 
JB and Al need to understand that people with a lot of experience with  the 
R22 don’t have a lot of questions about operating and maintaining their  boats, 
they’re here for the chatter - and oh by the way, if they see a question  
they can respond to, they will.  Without the chatter, those guys  will drop out 
and there will be no one here to answer or comment on  whatever question JB, 
Al, or whoever might have.
 
I recommend every new list member consider the importance of the subject  
line in every post - if they don’t want to deal with politics, have their Email  
filter anything with the word politics in the subject line.  That will  help.  
The one sure way for them to get help from the list on specific  issues of 
concern to them  is to post their specific sailing question and  monitor replies 
to that specific subject line, and then have the courtesy to  respond back to 
those that offered input.
 
In the final analyses, this list is just a group of friends scattered  across 
the country that have a shared interest in sailing, a great  boat, and life.  
Most of us even own R22s and actually do sail (the rest of  you know who you 
are!).   The list has a wealth of information and  experience about sailing 
and that boat - and perhaps life.  From my  perspective, it's up to new list 
members to figure out how to tap into  that wealth of information and friendship 
-  their asking the long standing  list to reconfigure itself to conform to 
their preconceptions may not be an  optimal approach.
