Bill,
Perhaps I failed to mention.... I was informed that to test the transducer
inside the hull it must be in direct contact with the hull.... that is without
air or air bubbles between it and the inner fiberglass. To achieve that it
either requires an adequate layer of water in the bilge or placing a soft clay
ring or silicone on inner hull, then press a pvc or similar tubular
container adequate in size to fit a transducer and fill with water. This should
permit an accurate test. If that area of the hull appears fine, no need to retest
in another area, remove all testing stuff, dry hull , light sand and make
another shallow clay well, pour in bubble free activated epoxy carefully
inserting not to trap bubbles the transducer). It should produce the same results as
your water test. It would then serve you with no resistance, danger of
damage, barnacle build up, scraping, leaking, and other associated problems. I
found that those who place it on the outboard areas of the transom, often incur
problems with heeling /out of water, air bubbles due to outboard motor.....
