Captain Rummy:

The need for power is huge. Too huge for just solar, wind, hydro, the so
called clean alternatives that you espouse.

Nuclear is the correct answer. It can be reasonably safe and the residue
can be safely handled. Much of the most dangerous waste is the spent fuel
rods which can be effeciently recycled. The collateral waste such as
equipment and storage containers can be consolidated and stored. Yes the
storage is for eternity, however, it can be done safely.

The need for power for mantaining mankind is too huge just for your approach
alone.

Addendum: "When people thought the earth was flat, they were wrong. When
people thought the earth was spherical, they were wrong. But if you think
that thinking the earth is spherical is just as wrong as thinking the earth
is flat, then your view is wronger than both of them put together."
Asimov's axiom as quoted by Michael Shermer
