OK, that makes sense. And prompted me to crawl around and do a more
thorough inspection of the hull.

I found another thru-hull just forward for the keel (see photo
attached). In that photo, the top one appears to have something in
it. It protrudes about 1/8" from the hull. The bottom one is
apparently an older hole that's been filled.

I'm guessing this is a transducer for a depthfinder or some
such. However, there isn't a depthfinder (or knotmeter) on the
boat. Unfortunately, I can't get to that part of the hull from the
inside without tearing out some floor boards that don't wish to be
torn out. Also, I've only found one loose wire so far that appears
to be telephone wire (red/green/yellow/black). Can't see where it
starts, but it comes out into the cockpit and is long enough to go
over the transom. It may or may not be related, just thought I'd
throw that fact out there.

So, any guesses what that thru-hull might be? Let's assume it's a
transducer for a depthfinder (which would make sense from its
location near the keel). Are these interchangeable among
units? IOW, could I attach just about any depthfinder to it if I can
reach the wires?

Cheers!
