Rummy,

Get a convex mirror that mounts on the tail gate.  You can see the ball
through your rear view mirror.  Horse people use them to hook up their big
rigs, but it works for any trailer.  I've been using one for years.  The
Draw-Tite guy in upper NY state sells them.
